Rule
Unless a more specific rule applies, a Family Residence Permit may be issued for up to ten years at a time. Its duration is capped at the period the sponsor is themselves legally permitted to stay.[1][2]
Exceptions
- CHANGED 2 OCTOBER 2026: Article 13(2) was amended by A.E.932/2026, raising the default duration from five years to ten ("her defasında en fazla 10 (on) yıllık süreyle verilen Aile İkamet İzni"). This Rule previously stated five years, current through 22 September 2026 — see versions[] for that prior figure and FOUNDER GOVERNANCE SYNC 04 below for context that still applies to the discrepancy this raises.
- FOUNDER GOVERNANCE SYNC 04 (2026-09-22): the Founder's own decision for this item described the Family Residence Permit as issued 'for up to two years at a time.' NCR's direct, current reading of the regulation's Article 13(2) instead states a general default — FIVE years at a time as of 22 September 2026, now TEN years as of 2 October 2026 — this Rule states that figure, not the Founder's stated two years, because it is what the primary text currently says. This discrepancy is not resolved here; it is reported as an unexpected finding for the Founder's attention rather than silently adopted or silently overridden, and the 2 October change has widened the gap rather than closed it. A distinct, narrower two-year figure does exist in the regulation, but for a different, more specific situation: the short-term residence permit available for up to two years, in up-to-one-year increments, after a sponsor's death (Article 16(6)) — this must not be conflated with the general Family Residence Permit duration.
- The sponsor-status cap (this Rule's second sentence) is confirmed exactly as the Founder described it — Article 16(4) — and is not affected by the duration-figure discrepancy above.
