Information, not advice

North Cyprus Reference publishes information about laws, decisions and official positions that concern foreigners in Northern Cyprus. It does not give legal, tax, financial or investment advice, and nothing on it should be treated as advice about any particular person, property or transaction. Whether and how a rule applies to your situation depends on facts we do not know. Instruct a lawyer who acts for you alone before you sign, pay or apply for anything.

No statement of safety

This site never states that a property, a title, a developer or a transaction is safe, secure or free of risk, and no page, tool or record should be read as doing so. The Buyer Protection Check is an educational due-diligence list; it records what you have verified and does not assess the property.

Currency and change

Rules in Northern Cyprus change frequently and sometimes by temporary decree. Each page and record shows when it was last verified and whether the instrument it relies on is in force, superseded or pending. A page that was accurate on its verification date may not be accurate on the day you read it. Check the regulatory updates page and confirm the current position with the authority concerned.

Contested matters

The legal status of property in Northern Cyprus is contested between legal systems. Where we describe a position of the Turkish Cypriot administration, the European Court of Human Rights, the Republic of Cyprus or a foreign government, we describe that body’s position; describing it is not endorsing it, and it is not a statement that the position is uncontested. We record these conflicts openly and do not resolve them.

Sources and translations

We cite primary sources wherever we can and say when we rely on secondary ones. Translations from Turkish and Greek are ours and are provided for convenience; the original text governs. Where this site is read in a language other than English, the English record is the source and governs in case of difference. Links to external sites are provided for verification; we are not responsible for their content.

No relationship with the authorities cited

No government, court, commission, ministry or professional body cited on this site has endorsed, reviewed or verified it. Listing an authority in our register is a statement of where a document came from, nothing more.
