Rule
Where a foreign worker holding a Time-limited Work Permit (Süreli Çalışma İzni) does not start the job for which it was granted, defaults in continuing it after starting, has their contract terminated by the employer, or the employment relationship otherwise ends in any manner whatsoever, the permit becomes invalid and is deemed cancelled as a matter of law. This does not extinguish the worker's rights under the Labour Law and other laws.[1][2]
Exceptions
- This Rule states the LEGAL EFFECT only. It does not state, and must not be read to imply, that the Ministry's own records update instantly, that administrative cancellation is processed immediately, that immigration/residence status automatically changes at exactly the same moment, that the worker immediately becomes unlawfully present, or whether any grace period exists in practice — all of these are administrative-implementation questions, NOT INDEPENDENTLY VERIFIED.
Practical implication
A foreign worker's Time-limited Work Permit does not survive the end of the specific job it was granted for, whatever the reason employment ends — resignation, dismissal, non-start, or default. This is a legal statement of the permit's validity, not a statement about how quickly this is administratively recorded or acted upon.
