24-month passport validity required for students/workers from unrepresented countries (2026)

Rule record · last verified 22 September 2026

In force since 24 August 2026.

Rule

A new Article 4(2)(d), inserted by A.E.784/2026, requires foreigners from countries with no TRNC diplomatic/consular representation, coming to study or work in the TRNC, to hold at least 24 months' passport validity. This condition does not apply to nationals of represented countries, and does not apply to purposes other than study or work.[1]

Exceptions

  • Does not establish which specific countries currently have no TRNC embassy, consulate or representation — inherently volatile, not encoded as a fixed list.
  • Does not establish how 'representation' is defined (e.g. whether an honorary consul counts) or how an applicant/officer determines this in practice.
