Rule
A foreign student's residence permit may be cancelled by the Immigration Department if their university fails to report the student's enrolment status to GöçSis for three months or more, whether counted from the permit's start date or from the university's last report.[1]
Conditions
- The student's university has not reported the student's status (active, passive, registration frozen, registration cancelled) to GöçSis for three consecutive months or more.
Practical implication
A foreign student's residence status now depends in part on their university's own compliance with a quarterly reporting duty, not solely on the student's own conduct. The same provision separately requires a university that fails to notify the Immigration Department of a status change within one month to bear the costs of that student's deportation if one becomes necessary, and allows the state to recover unpaid costs from the university — a university-facing liability, not something the student themself owes, but relevant context for why a university's administrative reliability now matters to a foreign student's own status.
