Rule
A municipality is legally obliged to bring drinking water to every residence and workplace within its boundaries. Municipal permission is mandatory to receive a water connection. A municipality may disconnect drinking water only after a user has failed to pay for 3 consecutive months AND failed to pay within 7 working days of a written notice.[1][2]
Exceptions
- Does not establish the specific documents a given municipality requires to open a household account — not centrally codified, and varies by municipality.
- Does not establish the reconnection process or cost beyond payment of arrears.
