2026 amendment: 'Sponsor' now also covers a person supporting a residence-exemption application

Rule record · last verified 22 September 2026

In force since 25 May 2026.

Rule

As of A.E.460/2026, a 'Destekleyici' (Sponsor) is defined as a citizen or legal residence-permit holder in the TRNC who undertakes the livelihood, expenses and housing of a foreigner coming for family unity, and who is named as the basis for an application — whether that application is for a residence permit or for a residence-permit exemption. This broadens the term's prior scope, which covered only permit applications.[1]

Exceptions

  • Does not itself establish who is eligible to sponsor (Article 16(2)'s separate eligibility list) or which residence-permit exemptions under Article 12(1) can actually be supported by a sponsor in this sense — the definition change's practical reach into Article 12's exemption categories has not been separately traced clause by clause.
