Rule
A passport, ID card or driving licence bearing the holder's photograph, issued by a local OR foreign official authority, is a valid identity document for bank customer due diligence purposes. Banks must establish and verify a customer's identity by examining the original of such a document. Banks must not open or operate anonymous accounts, accounts whose holder's identity is unknown or undocumented, or unnamed numbered accounts.[1]
Exceptions
- Does not establish whether individual banks impose additional identification requirements beyond this statutory minimum, such as a residence permit — see the separate Conflict record bank-account-residence-permit-requirement for that distinct, unresolved question.
- The Banking Law's own delegated Central Bank Notification under Article 29, which may add further document-type specificity, was not located.
